Creating successful color schemes can be very tricky. Thankfully one of my favorite designer resources on color is here to help.

COLOURlovers™ is a great resource for designers and color users alike. They monitor and influence new color trends. COLOURlovers provides a place to check out a world of color, get color palette ideas, and read color related news, comments, and articles.

I like to use this site whenever I need a boost of color inspiration. I can start with a color I know I want (say blue) and then expand my color search using additional keywords such as: soft, vibrant, dark, ocean, beach, etc.. COLOURlovers™ will even allow you to start your search with specific color values and hexadecimal numbers like those typically used in web design. They give you plenty of tools and features to get the ideas rolling.

So next time you find yourself having a hard time creating a color scheme for your website design, check out COLOURlovers™ and find your inspiration.

In web designing, you can also learn from social networks and web 2.0 sites. What is Web 2.0 by the way? From a development perspective, it's the term web designers use when referring to building an interactive, user friendly, larger network.

When you have a website the main goal is to bring more traffic to your site. The easier your site to understand the more traffic you'll have. So the key is, less is more. The simplicity of just giving a user what they need inorder to absorb your information and understand it and act upon what you want them to do is the most important.

What you have to do is to keep it simple. We start with the overall navigation of the website. It used to be so difficult to find your way around sites and access the information you were looking for. Now, by just using bolder colors, larger text, different fonts, etc, we’ve simplified the entire site setup. We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to find the information they’re searching for. The easier it is, the more traffic you’ll have, and that’s the goal.

Want to impress your readers right away at the time they see your page? Make them curious about your product or service by capturing their attention right away!

When designing your website, there is a term called, "above the fold", an area in your webpage that is in view without having to scroll up or down and left or right. In the "above the fold" section, put something you really want your customers to see. A good thing to note is that the average computer monitor has an “above the fold” size of about 1000 pixels wide by 578 pixels high. The key is to use this space to grab your customer’s attention.

The term "above the fold" actually referred to a newspaper, which when they are delivered to customers are folded up, meaning that only the top half of the front page is visible. The item that is above the fold, which the editor believed will entice people to buy the paper.

So, if there is something you would like your customers to see, you know where to place it. Use the space to grab attention and if you're successful with it, most likely they are willing to stick around and check the rest of the page.
